New Members Bring Health Care Expertise, Commitment to Community Engagement, and Financial Management Experience
Elliot Health System announces the election of six new members to its Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is responsible for providing oversight of decisions that impact the mission of the organization to inspire wellness, heal patients, and serve with compassion.
“Deep experience in community engagement, financial management, health care, and knowledge of Elliot Health System itself, is represented in our new members. I am grateful for their service,” said Daniel Monfried, Elliot Health System Board Chair. “The range and depth of expertise and perspective from this new group of Board members will serve Elliot Health System well. I look forward to working closely with them over the coming years.”
We are pleased to introduce Elliot Hospital System’s new Board of Directors members:
Karen Van Der Beken served as a volunteer on the Easterseals board, and she was subsequently hired as their Chief Development Officer; she is now retired. She serves on the advisory board at Manchester Community College and is a former board member of the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester. Karen mentors prospective board members through the Hoffman-Haas Fellowship program with the Center for New Hampshire Non-Profits and is the Co-Chair of Building on Hope. She is deeply committed to healthcare and the community.
Charles Goodwin is a lifelong resident of Manchester. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, he is the retired former Owner and President of the Goodwin Funeral Home, a fourth-generation family business which was sold in 2005. Charlie has many years of involvement with The Elliot, currently serving on the Mary and John Elliot Charitable Foundation Board of Directors and the Pearl Manor Fund Committee. From 2019 to 2020 he also served as a Co-Chair of the “Hope is Here” capital campaign for the Elliot Cancer Center. Charlie is dedicated to the health and well-being of our community, serving as a Trustee of The Cogswell Benevolent Trust and the Frederick Smyth Institute of Music and is a long-time member of the Board of Directors of Easterseals NH and a Trustee of the Manchester Boys and Girls Club. Charlie lives in Manchester with his wife, Jaye; they have three adult children and two grandchildren.
Dr. Nancy Husarik is an internal medicine/pediatrics primary care physician with Elliot Health System in Raymond. She has been with EHS since 2002. Over the years she volunteered in a variety of roles within and outside of EHS in service to the community. Dr. Husarik has served on the Patient Care Committee, Medical Executive Committee, and was Internal Medicine Section Chief.
Dr. Marjan Makatam-Abrams serves as a pediatric hospitalist who has been with Elliot Health System since 2011. Dr. Makatam-Abrams has been involved with training staff in TeamSTEPPS, Just Culture, as well as lean management.
Dr. Heidi Meinz is an obstetrician/gynecologist with Manchester Obstetrics /Gynecology Associates. She has been affiliated with the Elliot for over 20 years. Dr. Meinz is the current OB/Gyn Section Chief and Medical Director.
Dr. Carl Fier was recently elected as President of the Elliot Medical Staff in February 2022. He currently serves on the Medical Executive Committee, Credentials Committee and is the Chief of Cardiovascular Services. Dr. Fier is a cardiologist and has been on staff at the Elliot since July 2002. He practices both general and interventional cardiology specializing in Peripheral Vascular Medicine, Vascular Medicine Intervention, Non-Invasive Cardiology, Invasive Cardiology, Congestive Heart Failure, and Diagnostic Catheterization.
