Elliot Hospital has been named a recipient of the prestigious ApprenticeshipNH Champion Award for Innovative Pre-apprenticeship for Adults, marking a significant achievement in our dedication to workforce development and healthcare training. This award, a recognition shared with the International Institute of New England (IINE), acknowledges The Elliot’s commitment to fostering equitable, career-building opportunities in healthcare through groundbreaking pre-apprenticeship programs.

Supporting career advancement through ESOL training

Elliot Hospital’s dedication to workforce development extends to its current staff through free, internal ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes. This initiative equips employees with improved language proficiency, enhancing their career growth opportunities within the organization. The impact of this program has been profound, with staff members demonstrating improved communication skills and readiness for advanced roles.

“Programs like these are vital to the success of Elliot Hospital and our community,” said Becky Marden, director of workforce development and experience at Elliot Health System. “Our ESOL and pre-apprenticeship programs not only contribute to our staff’s development but also foster a more diverse, community-reflective organization.”

Sova, a student in the ESOL program said, “This class helped me in so many ways, I got to know new terms for nursing and improved my English. Also, I made friends who I can talk to. I think I wouldn’t have been so confident without this class.” Sova is now attending the LNA for Success program.

Championing healthcare pre-apprenticeships for English language learners

Vanessa RashidIn collaboration with Manchester Community College (MCC) and IINE, Elliot Hospital offers two innovative pre-apprenticeship programs: “LNA for Success” and “Healthcare for Success.” These programs are specifically designed to train English Language Learners (ELLs) to become Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs). The 18-week curriculum includes specialized English language instruction, professional skills development, and 144 hours of LNA training to prepare graduates for the New Hampshire Board of Nursing exam. By offering this tailored support, the program helps individuals gain the skills and qualifications needed to succeed in New Hampshire’s healthcare sector, especially as demand for skilled workers rises.
