Manchester, NH: The Elliot Health System Board of Directors, together with Sherry Hausmann, President & CEO of SolutionHealth are proud to announce the appointment of Greg Baxter, MD as President of Elliot Health System. “After a comprehensive national search, the Boards of Elliot Health System and SolutionHealth enthusiastically and unanimously selected Dr. Baxter. He is the most uniquely qualified and capable person to lead Elliot,” explained Sherry Hausmann, President & CEO SolutionHealth. “He has in-depth experience and knowledge of the complexities of healthcare and experiences first-hand the nature of the healthcare issues facing our community through his work in the emergency department. His insight and steady guidance in the formation of SolutionHealth, and our work since I began gives me great confidence in the talent he brings to his new role,” Hausmann added.

Dr. Baxter has been with Elliot Health System since 2003 when he joined and led the emergency physician provider group, growing it to 17 physicians and 10 advanced care providers by 2008. At that time, he was named Vice President of Medical Affairs serving as a liaison to the medical staff, Elliot Board of Directors and management. In 2009, Dr. Baxter was appointed Chief Medical Officer and has served in this leadership role for nine years.

While serving as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Baxter was also named Elliot’s Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs in 2011. In his dual capacity, Dr. Baxter transformed Elliot’s quality department to a Center for Clinical Excellence, requiring quality and operations to be synonymous with a relentless focus on continuous improvement, data and analytics to support evidence-based decision making in concert with Elliot’s strategic plan to best serve the community. He also successfully led the oversight of the Elliot network of physicians including over 300 providers ranging from primary care to inpatient critical and specialty care.

Dr. Baxter was appointed by the Board of Directors as Co-Executive of Elliot Health System to support the execution of the strategic plan, work with the Board in the selection process of a partner for affiliation, and he assumed the role of Senior Team Lead to provide oversight for day-to-day operations and strategic decision-making.

“We know that Dr. Baxter is very highly regarded by his colleagues on the medical staff, as well as all the members of the nonmedical staff at the Elliot and also by his peers in leadership roles throughout the state,” explained Jim Hood, Chair, Elliot Board of Directors. “Through his routinely high performance over the past decade in ever increasingly complex and demanding leadership roles, we have seen Dr. Baxter develop into a medical executive attuned to his hospital, his staff, his community and the anticipated changes coming in healthcare. He will advance the Elliot’s dedication to providing accessible clinical excellence to the communities we serve. We are looking forward to working with him and congratulate him and his family on this very important day.”

Dianne Mercier, Chair of SolutionHealth Board and former Chair and member of the Elliot Health System Board of Directors stated, “I am thrilled with our selection in Dr. Baxter. He is a proven leader and has spent the last 15 years at Elliot dedicated to growing an extraordinary medical group, expanding needed clinical services, serving the community through the practice of emergency medicine, educating himself and the Board in the healthcare trends of the future and the potential strategies to allow for greater access and higher quality care. He is truly an exceptional individual and someone for whom I have great respect.”

Dr. Baxter is a graduate of Saint Michael’s College where he obtained his B.S. in Biology in 1991. He then attended the University of Vermont College of Medicine and was awarded his Medical Doctorate in 1995.
