We are thrilled to announce the launch of Beyond the Stethoscope, our 6-week pilot summer program for students at Elliot Hospital, in partnership with the Manchester School District. This innovative program is designed to ignite curiosity and inspire future generations of diverse leaders by introducing promising young adults to career pathways within a health system.

The program combines educational content, hands-on experiences, and opportunities to meet various healthcare professionals. Participants are a mix of recently graduated seniors and rising seniors from Manchester High School. These students were carefully vetted through their schools, submitted applications, and committed to attending all sessions.

Each week, students explore themes designed to build essential skills, including identifying strengths, communication, decision-making, goal-setting, and problem-solving. They experience activities such as emergency department and lab tours, Stop the Bleed training, resume writing and interview skills, and more.

Our Elliot staff members are excited to participate and engage with our youth, sharing their passion and expertise. This collaboration ensures that students gain a broad perspective on the healthcare system and understand the myriad roles that keep it functioning smoothly. Participants meet staff from areas including child life, hospitality, clinical education, infection prevention, respiratory therapy, physician, legal, IT/cyber security, nursing, finance, and philanthropy.

We are committed to continuous improvement. After the program concludes, we will review the course, gather feedback, and make necessary changes to enhance the experience. Our intent is to reopen the program next spring for applications, aiming to welcome even more students into this enriching journey. Together, we are shaping the future of healthcare, one young professional at a time.
